Plot

Plot: So summer is finally over, and Dill returns home. Dill left Maywood, and Scout finally starts first grade. Scout's teacher tells her to read out loud and she tells her not to be taught by her father. Also, Scout gets "spanked" by her teacher because she didn't know how to explain why Walter Cunningham had no money for lunch and why he would never accept anything from the teacher. The characteristics of the Cunninghams is that they won't take anything from anybody, preferring to get by on the little they have, but Scout does not know how to explain and just says that Miss Caroline is making Walter ashamed by trying to lend him money he can't pay back. Miss Caroline pats her hand with a ruler and makes her stand in the corner. The Tom Robinson trail occurs and he is found guilty.
