Author Purpose

Charles Dickens purpose of using orphans in Oliver Twist was to show how poorly orphans were treated and to change the way society viewed orphans. He uses Oliver to show an example of the iconic orphan. Oliver is the iconic orphan because he is the ideal orphan and he represents light and innocence. Dickens wanted to change the way society thought of orphans because they were treated like criminals, even if they were innocent.
