Chapter 3

Theme: Seeking what is above; putting on love

• If then you have been raised with Christ, seek the things that are above, where Christ is, seated at the right hand of God. Set your minds on things that are above, not on things that are on earth. - Colossians 3:1-2

• Here there is not Greek and Jew, circumcised and uncircumcised, barbarian, Scythian, slave, free; but Christ is all, and in all. - Colossians 3:11

• And above all these put on love, which binds everything together in perfect harmony. - Colossians 3:14

• Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly, teaching and admonishing one another in all wisdom, singing psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, with thankfulness in your hearts to God. - Colossians 3:16

Paul is pleading through his letter to the Colossians to set their minds on things that are above and putting on the new self. He is asking them to put to death everything earthly within themselves, and replace it with what is holy and beloved in the eyes of the Lord. He also gives Godly guidelines for households; wives are to submit to their husbands, husbands are to love their wives and not provoke their children, etc. He reminds us that our purpose is serving the Lord, and partiality is not in Him.
