Men saw women as inferior and controlled the women in Athens.

Marriage

Fathers would arrange marriages and the bride and groom may have never met before. Men were often in their 30's and girls were around 14 when they got married.

There were also protitutes in Ancient Greece called : hataerae (female companion)

Sometimes wife sharing would occur just so a single man can produce an offspring

Women in Athens

"We keep hataerae for the sake of pleasure, female slaves for our daily care and wives to gig us legitimate children and to be the guardians for our households"

- this is a quote from a man in Ancient Greece in Athens
