When they reach the surface of the Earth, they discover that Inktomi has deceived them: buffalo are few and far between, the weather has took a turn for the worse, and they find themselves hungry and starving. Unable to return to their home, but filled with new knowledge about the world, they survive to become the founders of the Seven Fireplaces.
