The Taj Mahal is a mausoleum that required a lot of money. Shah Jahan was importing many thing from foreign lands. He hired westerners for ideas. Workers from other countries to work for him. This caused the economy of the Moghul empire to collapse. The grain that was meant to feed the population was instead being used to feed the workers constructing the building. Shah Jahan was arrested and sent to jail for the rest of his life. Although, when he died, he was then placed in the tomb, along with his late wife.
