A. Europe was divided by the "iron curtain" where one side allied with the U.S. with its resources and the other with the Soviet Union. The nations in each section implemented the ideals of their allied nation, sometimes bending them to fit their personal needs. Often nations joined one side or the other depending on whether the institutions of the government met what they wanted.
B. Around 3.5 million people left East Germany in favor of a capitalist life in West Germany. This was a large contributing factor to the construction of the Berlin Wall and also was an embarrassment to the Soviet Union.
C. NATO was created in response to the struggle between the U.S. and Soviet Union. This was meant to be a military counter to the Soviet Union.
