A. Fidel Castro was Communist and overthrew the former government in order to get his way. This caught both the attention of the US and USSR. The USSR used this as an opportunity to make an ally and get representation in Latin America, ultimately launching the Missile Crisis.

B. The US supported Fulgencio Batista y Zaldivar in order to keep good trading relations with Cuba. The USSR supported Castro as he was Communist and they would have representation in Latin America.

C. The Bay of Pigs stood as a huge embarrassment to the U.S. as their attempt to overthrow Castro was thwarted soon after they arrived.
