What major events happened during the battle?

On October 7 the British attacked the Americans and failed miserably,and were defeated by the Americans,and were soon forced to retreat. Another interesting fact is that general Howe didn't want to travel north to Albany with his troop,and instead decided to head east to take on Burgoyne on his own.
