Church Domination

The Church during the Middle Ages was the center of power. Almost everyone went to church. It was the only European institution during the time. The people of the church believed and saw life as exile from God's kingdom, and they have to wait for their day of deliverance. With it being the center of power, this plays a huge political role. For example, bishops held leading roles in the government. It also ties into culture. During this time period, people sought out a direct experience with God with which the church offered.
