Heresies: people who claim they are Christian, but believe that something is different to the "relieved truth" given to us by God from the Church

Heretics in the Middle Ages

The Church could claim if someone was a heretic, but they did not have any authority to imprison, take property, or execute. What they were able to do was recommend action to be done. The person or people would then be turned over to the public with a recommendation of execution. The state was then responsible for burning people at the stake not the Church.
