Newborn screening- done 3 days after the birth of a child. It is required in all 50 states of America because it will help the baby get a good start if it is caught early.

Sweat test- done if a newborn tests positive in the screening or if a person shows the symptoms of CF.

Carrier testing- this test is done on adults that uses a blood sample or a check cell to look at the genetic material and see if they are a carrier.

Life expectancy and quality of life

Treatment

Lives a regular life however with more complications than a healthy person.

There is no accurate life expectancy age. If you catch the disease early and are treating it right you should live a longer

Factors of life expectancy

- Age of diagnosis

-Severity of disease

-Health- infection, sickness

People with CF can pursue career and and have a family just like any other person.

Nebulizers- a machine that take a liquid drug and makes it into a mist then blows in through a tube that goes in the mouth. This helps to clear the mucus

CF vest- an inflatable vest that vibrates to loosen the mucus in the chest.

High calorie and fat diet, vitamins and minerals, and protection against infection is also very important
