Occurrence- demographics
-Most common within the white population in the United States.
Affecting about 1 in 3,000 infants
-Less common among other ethnicities such as African and Asian Americans.
Cystic fibrosis: clinical content
A genetic disorder in which the body has difficulty transporting chloride ions through it's cells making it hard to breath. This is common in the pancreas and the lungs.
Symptoms
- wheezing
- shortness of breath
- persistent cough that produces think phlem
- frequent lung infection
- poor growth/ slow- weight gain
