Why was the monsoon season so important to farmers in the Indian River Basin?

Monsoon season was important to agriculture in India because of the excess water which was perfect for growing crops. The down side to the Monsoon season was that storms that passed were strengthened and made the storms incredibly strong. The storms were also important because it allowed people to participate in trade and manufacturing and not just the production of food.

Because of the small amounts of rivers in india, irrigation systems were crucial to retaining water. Some irrigation systems were dams, reservoirs, canals, wells, and tunnels.

Why was India's population able to grow throughout the postclassical era?

India's population grew due to increased productivity.
