Section 4: Precepts and Purification

Precepts of Purification-

Precepts- positive laws made by the Church authority to foster the spiritual growth of the Church members

Five Precepts of the Church-

1. Attend mass on Sundays, Holy Days of Obligation, and rest from servile labor

2. Confess your sins at least once a year and preform an examination of conscience

3. Receive the Eucharist at least once in Easter Season

4. Observe days of fasting and abstinence established by the Church

5. Support needs of the Church

Penitential Practices- practices that help us grow in our holiness or closeness to God

Examples: Examination of Conscience, praying the Lord's Prayer, giving alms(money or material goods), fasting, making reparation, praying for sinners, and receiving the Sacrament of Reconciliation
