Unit Overview

This unit of work is designed for year ones within the national Australian curriculum. The unit has an Australian animal theme.

The beginning of the unit introduces the students to Australian animals, through the use of literature.

The unit then focuses on various Australian animal art works and relates these animal artworks to biology.

The unit then progresses to the elements of art that will be a focused upon through the unit. The first element is line (leaf prints)and the second element is colour (natural).

Finally the students will create their own Australian animal by collaging leaf prints and any other materials they seem fit.

Students will be exposed to skills such as cutting, gluing, critical thinking and problem solving throughout this uni pt of work. The student will also be exposed to techniques such as collaging and leaf rubbing.
