Software, particularly programs that supporting composition and editing in HTML, CSS, JavaScript, and PHP, plays a large role in LIS 2635 Information Architecture. Toward that end, licenses for several applications have been obtained in conjunction with the development of this course. Of them, the one that is likely to be most useful during the course of the term is WebStorm, which has been developed and provided by JetBrains. It is important to note, however, that other programs, most notably Adobe Dreamweaver and Aptana Studio 3, are much like WebStorm in terms of form and function. Students with access to an application like Dreamweaver may employ it in lieu of WebStorm or Aptana Studio. Such substitutions will represent an issue within the course only when technical support is required, since not all Web editors and/or development environments can be supported to the fullest extent. Similarly, there are applications that may be substituted for Navicat Premium Essentials, including MySQL Workbench, but support will be concentrated on the former program.
