Battle of Chaldiran

The Twelver Shiism of the Safavid Empire created many enemies, namely the Sunni Ottomans. One emperor of the Ottoman Empire launched the practice of  persecution of the Shiites in the Otoman Empire and prepared for the invasion of the Safavid Empire. At the Battle of Chaldiran, the Ottomans deployed thousands of Janissaries, who were able to capture their enemy's capital and damage the Safavid State. The Ottomans did not have the resources to totally destroy the state, and remained in constant conflict with the Safavids for the next two centuries.
