The Significance of the Cuban Missile Crisis

The significance of the Cuban Missile Crisis was that it sobered the entire world, because they realized how close they had been to full on nuclear war. Afterwards a telecommunications hotline was set up between the leaders of the two countries so they could communicate directly in times of crisis. It also prompted the signing of the Nuclear Test Ban Treaty, this ended the testing of nuclear weapons in the atmosphere.
