Louis Zamperini
• Louis Zamperini was an Olympic runner for the United States and was planning to run in the 1940 Olympics before they were cancelled.
• He gave up his running career for a position as a bombardier in the Air Corps.
• When his plane flew out to find other another missing plane, his plane crashed, killing 5 out of 8 men.
• After 33 days on the Pacific Francis “Mac” MacNamara died.
• Zamperini and Russell Allen “Phil” Phillips survived for 47 days on the Pacific before they were found by a Japanese warship and sent to separate POW camps.
• At the camp, Zamperini was tormented by a man called the "Bird" due to his fame.
• After the Allied Powers dropped the bomb on Hiroshima, they planned to free all of the POW's.
•Zamperini was released from his POW camp on September 5th, 1945.
