Germany vs Soviet Union

A. For Germany, what were the goals of Operation Barbarossa?​

Germany’s main goals during the Operation of Barbarossa were all revolving around the Soviet Union. Hitler saw the Soviet’s economy weakening and found an opportunity in this. The ultimate goal was to completely take over and capture major cities. Many soldiers were captured, and lots of German land advances were made. Germany wanted to take down the Soviet Union as they saw them as a neighboring threat.


B. What advantages did the Red Army (Russians) have over the Germans at Stalingrad?

There were a few advantages that the Russians had over the Germans at Stalingrad. First off, Germany did not know that the Soviet Union had recently allied the United States. This was a huge help to the Soviets, as the United States could provide more men, ammunition, and weaponry. Another advantage that the Russians held was their familiarity with harsh winters. The Germans were not equipped for the winters and therefore could not capture Moscow. The Soviet Union, however, had warm boots and clothes manufactured by their new ally, the United States.


C. How was industry (Industrial Capacity) so key to Allied victories in the Pacific and Europe?
