Monroe Doctrine

After the new republic had won its independence, U.S. leaders pursued their manifest destiny and brought almost all the temperate regions of North America, and Latin America under their authority. They were able to do this through the Monroe Doctrine that warned European states against imperialist designs in the Western Hemisphere and served as a justification for later U.S. intervention in hemispheric affairs.
