Diabetes- Type 1, Type 2, Mellitus

Type 1 Diabetes:

-may be caused by a genetic predisposition or possibly from the result of faulty beta cells in the pancreas that normally produce insulin

-cannot be cured, but can be maintained with insulin shots, carefully planned meals, exercise, and eating healthy

Type 2 Diabetes:

-used to be called adult-onset diabetes; was also called non-insulin-dependent diabetes

-no cure but can be controlled with weight management, nutrition, and exercise

-tends to progress, and diabetes medications are often needed.

Regulation:

Proper Function

-The regulation of the sugars involves production of insulin (a pancreas function)

-Having a healthy pancreas is crucial in order to maintain blood sugar at a healthy level through the balance of insulin and glucagon

-Hyposecretion of insulin (not enough) can result in diabetes Mellitus
