Marcellin was on a house visit to a sick boy named Montage. While he was there, Marcellin learned that they boy knew nothing of Jesus or God. Marcellin decided to teach him.

Montage told Marcellin that he believed him about religion, and Marcellin was relived. Soon after, Marcellin had to leave for another house call, but when he returned Montagne was dead. This event is directly responsible for Marcellin starting the Marist brothers.
