range of mountains that stretch from British columbia south to new mexico. at several points it stretch 300 miles wide. it is bordered on the east by the Great Plains and the west by the interior plateau. it includes over 100 different mountain ranges.

Appalachian mountains is the eastern counterpart of the rocky mountains. It extends from newfoundland to central alabama. it is bordered by the eastern coastal plains and the interior lowlands.
