Parts of Brain Affected

Quinlan suffered irreversible brain damage after experiencing an extended period of respiratory failure.

Karen Ann Quinlan being in a coma also cause her brain stem and central cerebellum were embedded and serially sectioned.

This caused blood flow to the brain to decrease and had her in a vegetable state.
