HISTORY
Title IX was established in 1972 by President Nixon. It stated "No person in the United States shall, on the basis of sex, be excluded from participation in, be denied the benefits of, or be subjected to discrimination under any education program or activity receiving Federal financial assistance". Title IX was then challenged by the NCAA of its legality four years later, but the bill excluding revenue-producing sports from Title IX died in the committee before reaching the senate. Now, the NCAA is required to have equality between the sexes regarding sports. Alongside sports, high schools and college had a deadline to comply with all Title IX stated in June of 1978. Title IX is still in play today, 40 years later.
