Fitzgerald portrays the decay in America by explaining the lack of moral values, the raise of materialism, greed, and the pursuit of pleasure. Any individual from any ethnic background, could potentially make millions. Spending uncontrollably was common. Wolfsheim and Gatsby's bootlegging represents the organized crime. Part of the American Dream is being in love, and Gatsby and Daisy's love is corrupted by their social classes, this, corrupting the dream.
