The green light: When Nick sees Gatsby first, Gatsby reaches to the green light, which symbolizes Daisy, and then vanishes. We can foresee that Daisy's love will vanish for him as well.

The clock: When reuniting with Daisy, Gatsby knocks a clock off the mantle. Gatsby's love blinds him from the time he and Daisy spent apart, and the clock bumping off the mantle resembles that time has run out for them and it will not repair their love.

Gatsby's death: Before Gatsby is killed, he is wearing a pink suit. A strong protective outfit with a color that resembles prosperity and wealth. When he strips off his suit, he is stripping out his strength and protection. When he goes swimming, it is on the first day of fall- a dreary, cold, crisp day. Earlier in the book when Nick is talking about guests at Gatsby's there are a few guests who drowned.

Valley of Ashes: located at a cross in the railroad tracks. The characters cross this intersection many times which could symbolize the cross roads they were experiencing, or could foreshadow more problems to come.
