Light year

The distance light travels in the course of a year

Astronomers use light years to see how the universe looked after the Big Bang.

EX: objects that are examined 10 billion light years away, are seen by astronomers as they looked 10 billion years ago.

***Sunlight take about 8 minutes to reach our eyes, so the sun is about 8 light-minutes away***
