The Spill
The 2010 BP oil spill, off the coast of Mexico, is well known as the worst oil spill in the U.S. history! Days after this explosion and sinking of the Deepwater Horizon oil rig in the Gulf of Mexico, killing 11 people and injuring 17, the remote underwater cameras revealed that the pipe of BP's, was leaking oil and gas onto the ocean's floor around 42 miles off the coast of Louisiana. An estimation of 4.9 million barrels of oil had leaked into the Gulf, before the well was capped on the 15th of July (87 days after the leakage).
