A total of 16,000 miles of coastlines had been affected, the coastlines of Texas, Louisiana, Mississippi, Alabama and Florida.
Over 30,000 people responded to this incident for the Gulf Coast oil spill, helping with oil collecting, cleaning up benches, taking care of animals and performing many other duties. In 2012 the Gulf had still been polluted with oil.
It was announced that the administration of President Obama created a $20 billion spill response fund.
The cost of $40 billion in fines were the responsibilities of BP from the oil spill, cleanup costs and settlements, with $16 billion due to the Clean Water Act.
