The Thailand people , in their perspective , having a long neck is beautiful , there is also some peer pressure from their mothers and grandmothers to wear them.

These neck rings usually take place in Northern Thailand, women begin wearing the heavy brass rings around their necks at infancy. Their tradition says that it will protect these women from tigers. More rings are added with age and growth, to put weight on the shoulders and stretch the neck.
