Our group thinks the my plate suggestion is a more effective, efficient, and easy way to display recommended daily intakes. We would have made the change because it is easier to understand.
The Food Pyramid vs. My Plate
According to the US Department of Agriculture, the food pyramid states that we should have, on average, two-three servings of protein daily. However My Plate suggests that both boys and girls between the ages of 14-18 need on average 5-6.5 ounces per day.
