It's southern border is the Mason-Dixon Line. It is home of the largest mound in North America, Grave Creek Mound.

It's county seat is Moundsville, which is also the largest city.

The county was formed on March 12, 1835.

On Christmas Eve of 1852, workers completed the B&O Railroad. (Baltimore and Ohio)
