Moctezuma II believed would Cortez was a god; he resembled an god who they believed would return some day
Moctezuma sent gifts to Cortez, including gold, searching for more gold, Cortez marched to Tenochtilan; he was greeted as a god but took Moctezuma prisoner
Moctezuma was killed in a battle between Indian and Spanish Forces
