Mollusks are invertebrates that usually have a shell for protection and shelter. Their bodies beneath their exoskeleton are soft and fleshy. Their "foot" is used to moved and is the most muscular part of the body; it is usually found on the posterior of the animal. There are almost 100,000 species of known mollusks. One example of a mollusk is a garden snail, also known as Cornu aspersum. This species is edible, but it is most widely known as a garden disturbance. Another example is Benthoctopus levis. This species inhabits shallow subarctic regions of the ocean. http://www.oceanicresearch.org/education/wonders/mollusk.html
