In the summer the people in South Africa wear clothes that are cool, light, and comfortable because the temperature can get well into the 30 degree range in some areas.

In the winter they wear jerseys and jackets because the winters are favorably mild. They also wear rain gear because in Cape Town, they get their rain during the winter season.

Always bring a hat, sunglasses, and sunblock as the sun can be very strong even during the winter months.

Walking shoes are a good idea all year-round, with warm socks in the winter.

South Africa's Clothing

If you're going to dinner or a show smart-casual attire is recommended. If you're doing business in the country, business attire (suit and tie) is recommended. If you're going to a game viewing, a couple of neutral toned items will be useful but don't go overboard. Also take a pair of walking shoes.
