The Appalachian Dulcimer is a very old instrument, originating from the early 19th century. This is thought to have been created by the Scots-Irish immigrants, who lived in the Appalachian mountains. Supposedly, it is based off of similar instruments in Continental Europe. There are currently very few in existence from before 1880. This instrument is regarded as an important part of Appalachian culture and folk music.
