Symbolism in "Come Again in Spring."

The birds in "Come Again in the Spring" represent family. They were there for Old Hark when he was in trouble. They protected him from death and helped him. They had also been there his whole life, just like family is. Old Hark also treated them like family by feeding them everyday.
