Most kids attended private schools that were made by there community's. There was no public school when Texas became a state. Until President Lamar had set aside land for public schools. Many schools were consisted in go one room log buildings. In 1854 Governor Elisha M. Pease sighed a law that set aside 2 million dollars for special school fund.
