One symbol I identified from the story,"Come Again in the Spring" is the birds. The importance of the birds is that they bring the memories back to the old man so he doesn't get taken by the man in the black dress with the big hat. When he reflected on the answers to the three questions, the birds helped him by guiding him back to his childhood with their presence. The birds have always been a part of the old mans life.
