Camped out in Kiev’s main square since November, opposition protesters endured police brutality and bitter cold nights for months. At times the throngs swelled to hundreds of thousands. Comprised of several diverse groups, who can be divided into Ukrainian nationalists, European Union supporters, and right wing national supporters, the effects of this are unpredictable. For example, this past week the tension exploded with the deaths of dozens of protesters and the president’s disappearance.
