Example Two: Stalin
In a speech Stalin give to the people of Russia says: "My words are addressed to you, dear friends!" (Stalin, line 2). By calling the people of Russia 'dear friends' he is creating a feeling of closeness with him (a political leader who is a high class) and the common people (a low class). This feeling of being comrades with a high leader gives the people of Russia a feeling of hope and bonds them together with Stalin. Stalin has achieved a level of power over the people throught the words 'dear friends' by letting them feel equal to him and will be easier to control. This example of pathos is directed to an audience so the pathos is being felt by the audience in the speech instead of the reader.
