Most Anglo-American children attended private schools established by their community. They consisted of a one room log building
In 1854 Gov. Elisha M. Pease signed a law that set aside 2 million for schools. However few public schools were established. The permanent school fund was created in 1876 for future support. Today the fund is worth over 20 million
