Not a battle

D- day was not a battle , it was a strategic operation the goal was to push the Germans off the beach and place them inland

The Plan

Winston Churchill and Franklin Roosevelt
Agreed to open up an new front along the western beaches of France .

The Germans believed that the allies would attack the Pas de Calais so the allied troops set forth towards Normandy .

Code names of beaches:

Utah , Omaha , Gold , Juno , Sword.

First meeting of Josef Stalin (USSR), Franklin D.Roosevelt (USA) and Winston Churchill (Britain) meeting in Tehran, Iran in 1943. At this meeting the invasion of Western Europe in 1944 was confirmed.
