-The men usually came to America first along with an older son if they had one
-They brought everything they had, which was not much
-They came on steam ships to America
-The boats had very little food
-Very tiny rooms
-Rooms were cold, dark, and very filthy
-Sickness spread through the ships
-Some people died on the ships
-Rooms were filled with up to 100 people at times
-Did not have many beds, so they took turns sleeping
-Many people became sea sick
-On average took 3-4 weeks to reach America
-Most settled in New York
