Page 15 "The huge white man's angry shouts did sound like the barking of a dog." That is a simile because it is comparing a man's shouts to the barking of a dog using like.
Page 28 "The days were so long that it sometimes seemed as if each one was a year." This is figurative language because it is a simile by having it compare days to a year using as.
Page 25 "Nor was I like the careless boys and girls who kept speaking Navajo when our teachers- who watched us the way coyotes watch a prairie dog hole- could hear them. That is figurative laguage because it is a metaphor saying that the teachers ARE coyotes and the students ARE prairie dog holes.
