The ancient Egyptians had a procedure they did to their dead, called mummification. Depending on the ranking of the person, the process could be different. Typically it was to ensure preservation of the body. The body was left in the sun to dry at first, then wrapped in linen that molded to the body. Later in the years the Egyptians added to the process. The process grew and internal organs were being taken out of the dead bodies and placed into jars for the afterlife. This procedure was usually only done for a higher ranking person who was a king or was very rich.
