He worked as a Houston assistant attorney in 1966. He worked legal foundation from 1966to 1969 and as a assistant U.S attorney from 1973 to 1978, and served as Diocesan attorney from 1976 to 1978. He was appointed to a judge from the judicial district, there he was elected a four year term. Before he completed his term,Clements appointed him an associate justice on the 13th court osprey appeals. He was elected to the position in 1982.
